We never know the journey of life. One day I found myself in a fulfilling career and wanting to know if there was anything else I would be good at? My mind instantly started to drift back to my childhood days when I affirmed to my parents and anyone else who would listen that I would become a veterinarian. When faced with the reality of leaving home to pursue that adventure, I played it close to the cuff and stayed at a local college. Fast forward a few years and I have a budding career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Fast forward a few more years and I have a Master's Degree in School Counseling and working in the public school system. By this time I was married, but the echoes, from long ago, wanting to work with animals resurfaced. That is when I first dipped my toes into the vast sea of dog hustles.
My first dog hustle was pet sitting. Pet sitting is a service you offer to traveling and busy pet parents. They book x number of visits per day and we charged a per visit fee. Wow, that seems like a lifetime ago now. I really enjoyed this service as we had a marvelous opportunity to meet cool people and cool pets; parrots, dogs, and cats. I cut my business savvy teeth with our first successful side hustle. Eventually, we moved out of the area and closed down the business.
It would be a few years before we got the dog hustle itch again. Even while we were operating our pet sitting hustle, I wanted to groom dogs. At the time, I could not find the balance between learning the skill and maintaining my 9-5. In addition to this, there was a hesitance to invest thousands of dollars for a skill set I could devote such little time. In the fullness of time, I came across an online platform that was inexpensive and allowed me to earn my dog grooming certificate. Great, the first problem was solved.
